Powering DEFRA's EVs in Exeter

DEFRA (the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) manages a wide estate of operational sites across the UK. Its property arm looks after depots, offices and field bases that keep frontline environmental work running, and low-carbon transport is part of how that estate is being brought up to date.

The work at the Exeter site sat within that wider move towards cleaner fleet and staff travel, giving vehicles a reliable place to charge on site rather than relying on public infrastructure nearby.

InspireGreen installed two EO Genius 2 charge points on a single post at the site, giving staff a dedicated place to charge on site. Each unit delivers up to 7.2kW.

Each charge point was fed by its own 40A circuit with Type B RCBO protection on a three-phase supply, keeping the EV load separated from the rest of the site and easy to isolate. PEN fault protection was also added to existing charge points already on site, bringing them in line with current requirements.

The result is two charge points that staff can use day to day, wired and protected to the 18th Edition standard and documented in full for the site's records.
