22kW Workplace EV Charging at the Health Education and Improvement Wales Offices in Nantgarw

Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW) is the NHS Wales body responsible for the education, training and development of the healthcare workforce. Its offices in Nantgarw house staff across the working week, and with more of the team driving electric vehicles, the site needed reliable workplace charging that staff could use during the day, set up to work for both Welsh and English-speaking users.

The original brief was for six 7 kW chargers. After looking at how the bays would be used, we installed six 22 kW Easee chargers instead, giving staff a faster charge during a working day and more usable charge from a single visit.

The chargers are managed through the Clenergy back-office system, which staff use to access charging, with a Welsh-language option built in. We also designed and built custom bilingual signage for the bays, so each charging point is clearly marked in Welsh and English.

To keep staff and vehicles safe, each charger is fitted with a Penfold PEN fault detection device. This is an electrical safety unit that protects users from dangerous touch voltages if the neutral line on the grid supply breaks. We also installed protective bollards around the bays to guard the chargers from accidental knocks in a busy car park. The installation is covered by a three-year maintenance contract.
